Sebastian Silén: From Dawn to Dusk
Sebastian Silén’s fourth doctoral concert

An evocative journey through Nordic landscapes and emotions, ”From Dawn to Dusk” invites the audience to explore the many gorgeous character pieces by the Nordic region’s most beloved composers. Beginning with Sibelius’s delicate Aubade, capturing the quiet beauty of early morning, and concluding with Sinding’s reflective Abendstimmung, this concert offers a musical narrative of a day in the North, from sunrise to sunset. The program highlights works by Jean Sibelius, Johan Svendsen, Wilhelm Stenhammar, and Christian Sinding, alongside less known musical gems by Ole Bull, Johan Halvorsen, and Fini Henriques. The intricate interplay between light and shadow, morning freshness and evening calm, is embodied in these musical miniatures, each offering a unique glimpse into Nordic life and landscape.
”From Dawn to Dusk” is designed to appeal to both seasoned classical music lovers and those new to Nordic music. The accessible, lyrical character pieces are rich in melody and emotion, allowing listeners to engage deeply with the music while discovering the distinct voices of Nordic composers. The concert offers something for everyone, from the nostalgic warmth of Svendsen’s Romance to the folk-like dances of Bull’s A Mountain Vision. It also explores the natural beauty and varied moods of a Nordic day, bringing both intimacy and grandeur to the concert hall.
