Rehearsal orchestras in conducting and wind instrument orchestra conducting are known in Finnish as ‘kapubändi’ and ‘puhallinkapubändi’. They are orchestras made up of students, which the students of conducting lead on a regular basis. Playing in a these orchestras is a good way to familiarise yourself with the basic orchestral repertoire. The size of the orchestra varies depending on the repertoire in use. The practices mainly take place at the Helsinki Music Centre. Participation in a rehearsal orchestra is not regarded as a part of studies and does not accrue ECTS credits. Instead, the musicians are paid an hourly remuneration.
