Apply to the first-ever Master’s Degree Programme in Musical Theatre in Finland and the Nordic countries! The master’s programme trains performers by combining the performing arts education of the Sibelius Academy and the Theatre Academy.

You will commit to pursuing intensive and demanding studies for two years, allowing you to hone your skills and broaden your horizons. You will study both in Finnish and in Swedish. The bilingual programme will promote your employment opportunities in Finnish- and Swedish-speaking professional contexts, helping you to build your connections to international stages.

About the studies

The master’s degree programme deepens and diversifies the competence of musical theatre students. It gives you the chance to improve your skills as a performing artist. The core of the programme is built around acting, singing and dancing and the combination of these skills, as well as around musical dramaturgy and performance thinking. You will gain hands-on experience and collaborate with professionals in other fields of arts by participating in projects and productions.

The programme gives you the skills needed for working in diverse roles in the field of musical theatre – as a performer, artistic creator and visionary. You will learn how to create and explore musical theatre in innovative ways and to ambitiously develop the artistic discipline in an active dialogue with the music and theatre sector. At Uniarts Helsinki, you will get to collaborate with students of other degree programmes, too.

Who should apply?

This master’s degree programme is the right fit for you if you have a background in music, theatre or dance and you want to take your artistic career to the next level. If you have been dreaming of a multi-artistic career as a performer, this programme will give you the opportunity to dedicate yourself to a two-year programme of intensive and rigorous studies.

You will receive one-to-one supervision, mental coaching and study counselling throughout your academic journey. Your studies will be tailored to you according to your personal background and goals.

After graduation, you will be ready to show off your talents in musical theatre, musical productions or creative projects of your own. You have the technical and artistic skill set needed for leaving your own impressive mark on the stage and on society.

Doctoral education

After graduation, you will have the option to apply for doctoral studies at Uniarts Helsinki’s Sibelius Academy and Theatre Academy and specialise in research-oriented, artistically oriented or applied doctoral studies.
