Archive of Art School Dissent
The Archive of Art School Dissent seeks to discover trans-geographical entanglements between education, geo-economic circumstances, cultural conditions, and communities through which alterity has been articulated and dissent enacted.
Introduction
The Archive of Art School Dissent seeks to discover trans-geographical entanglements between education, geo-economic circumstances, cultural conditions, and communities through which alterity has been articulated and dissent enacted. Rather than attempting to create an all-encompassing survey, the archive will consist of a series of live public events during which invited artists, educators and researchers will collaboratively and discursively map out genealogies, asking:
To what extent are the conditions that elicit art school dissent broadly shared? Are there commonalities of desire to be found in dissenting modes of art school education? How is this effected by geographical positions?
Mapping genealogies of art school dissent is to consider these particularities, quantifying: what was being challenged, the subsequent ways in which pedagogies have been re-shaped; the extent and manner in which alternative models have been adopted, and how this might point to future artists pedagogies.
