I teach structural awareness skills (music theory, harmony and voice leading, music analysis and ear training) mainly to students of orchestral instruments and church music at the Uniarts Helsinki Sibelius Academy. In my own research, I concentrate on applying Partimento and especially the Rule of the Octave in music analysis and music theory pedagogy; in my teaching work I apply Partimento-influenced models in learning harmony, voice leading and analysis through making music – playing and singing, improvising and composing. Earlier, I have also studied the connections between orchestral texture and musical structure. In addition to teaching music theory, I am a clarinetist, and have also worked as a conductor and arranger. I am a part-time music journalist: I work e.g. as the host of the Tunne orkesteri (Know your orchestra) public lecture series shared by Musiikkitalo and Uniarts Open Campus. The different manifestations of music, culture and interaction are important to me both at work and in my free time, whether it's about art or teaching it, public work, equality issues, well-being, or climate work. In my free time, I read, play, compose, and am a basketball fan.
