2016
Use today’s newspaper as a starting point for your project(s)during the admission course. It is important to realize that you do not have to think about this too literally. One can think of the information contained within the newspaper for example but also the newspaper as an object, a subject, a support, as a raw material, as something to be transformed, an historical object, today’s newspaper is tomorrows history, or even the processes that lead to the making of the newspaper itself; the interpretation of this assignment is up to you. This is a starting point, use any media and materials you see fit.
2017
The photos and the text (given separately to the attendees) are the starting point for your work in the admission course. You can use them the way you want, one image, two, or even all of them. You can make one or more works during the admission course based on the given images (and text).
2018
These elements: a sound file (available for listening in the studio), a potato, a water bottle (as a concept), the texts and the map (as a place) are the starting points for your work in the admission course. You can use them the way you want, one element, two, or even all of them. You can make one or more works during the admission course based on the given elements.
2019
The following elements comprise the starting point for your work in the admission course: a sound file (available for listening in the studio), a teabag, a text, and a map (as a location). You can use them any way you like; you can use just one element, several elements, or all of them. You can make either one work or several works during the admission course based on the given elements.
2020
NB: the admission course in the spring of 2020 was exceptionally organised remotely due to the restrictions pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Make 1–3 works inspired by one or several of the following assignments. Free choice of medium.

Use today’s newspaper as a starting point for your project(s) during the admission course. Give a title/titles to the work you make.
You do not have to think about the assignment too literally. One can think of the written and pictorial information contained within the newspaper, for example, but also the newspaper as an object, a subject, a support, as a raw material, as something to be transformed, as a historical object or even the processes that lead to the printing and distribution of the newspaper itself.
The interpretation of this assignment is up to you. Use any media and materials you see fit.
Here are some perspectives for the task which you can use if you like:
- The tangible (e.g. the newsprint paper)
- The abstract (e.g. a citation of a text)
- The visual (e.g. a photograph)
- The auditory or haptic
If it is not possible for you to obtain a newspaper, use an online newspaper as a starting point for your project(s).
Please document your works either by providing pictures of them (1–3 images or more, if necessary) or a video/audio file. In addition to the documentation, please provide a brief textual account of your work and working conditions (c. 1–5 sentences).
2022
Make two or more artworks using two or more ways of working (eg. drawing, collage, painting, sculpture, moving image, performance, photography, etc.) during the admission course.
Use one or more of the following things as starting points for your work:
- an onion
- Hakaniemi marketplace (location)
- an excerpt from the novel Invisible Cities byItalo Calvino (1972)
- an image of the coal pile in Hanasaari power plant. NB! Please note that it is strictly forbidden to enter the Hanasaari power plant area.
You can approach the assignment in any way you wish.
2023

2024
Choose two or three (2-3) assignments from the four options below.
1) Displacement
Do something in the Hakaniemi Market Square that opens up a new perspective to the situation there. It can be either an act or an object. Present the work by documenting it using your chosen means (photo, audio recording, text, sketch, moving image etc).
2) Opposites
The starting point of the work is a pair of opposites, e.g. superior/inferior. Name the work according to the starting point.
3) The Unprecedented
Make a work of something you have never seen.
