The accessibility status of the digital service
Fulfils the critical accessibility requirements.
Accessibility is already taken into account well in many aspects of the site. This is particularly evident in the contrasts of text and interface elements, the HTML structure of the page content, and web forms.
The website is not fully compliant
Visual deficiencies
Visible alignment: In some elements, the custom keyboard alignment indicator does not meet the contrast requirements or the alignment is not displayed at all. Accessibility requirement not met:
- 2.4.7 Focus visible
- 1.4.11 Non-text contrast
Scalability: Some visual elements do not scale without loss of information or functionality or two-way scrolling when the screen width is 320 CSS pixels. This occurs in the cookie window and on some pages that list content. We have scheduled this to be fixed as part of the continuous development of the website. Accessibility requirement not met: 1.4.10 Reflow
Structural deficiencies
Nested links: site search results contain nested links, which makes it very difficult to understand the search results when using a screen readers. Accessibility requirement not met:
- 1.3.1 Info and relationships
- 1.4.1 Use of colour
- 2.4.4 Link purpose (in context)
- 4.1.2 Name, role, value
ARIA techniques: there are individual elements on the site where ARIA attributes refer to elements that are not found on the page or have a non-unique identifier. These are mainly in the navigation of the site. We have scheduled this to be fixed as part of the continuous development of the website. Accessibility requirement not met: 4.1.2 Name, role, value
Tables: the website has tables (for example Projects page) which are presented in a list format when zooming the page and when in mobile view. In this case, the table structure breaks down when the header and other cells are hidden visually and in code. Accessibility requirement not met: 1.3.1 Info and relationships
Headings: some individual pages have empty heading elements or headings are not displayed as HTML heading levels. We are fixing these as part of our ongoing site quality monitoring. Accessibility requirement not met: 1.3.1 Info and relationships
Highlighting an active item: active items in different menus are visually highlighted, but not marked in the code. This is the case, for example, on pages listing study programmes or projects. Accessibility requirement not met: 1.3.1 Info and relations
Notifications and feedback: there are some dynamic notifications and feedback on the site which are not correctly conveyed to the screen reader. These appear, for example, on pages listing open study programmes or projects. Accessibility requirement not met: 4.1.3 Status messages
Navigation deficiencies
On-page navigation: There are errors in the programmatic structure, reading order and navigation order of the on-page navigation elements, which make them very difficult to use with a keyboard and screen reader. We have scheduled this to be fixed as part of the continuous development of the website. Accessibility requirement not met:
- 1.3.1 Info and relations
- 2.1.1 Keyboard
- 2.4.3 Focus order
- 2.5.3 Label in name
- 2.4.6 Headings and labels
- 4.1.2 Name, role, value
Programming of the page structure: not all areas of the pages are marked in code. In addition, the accessible name of some of the areas marked in code is in English in all language versions. Accessibility requirement not met:
- 1.3.1 Info and relations
- 2.4.1 Bypass blocks
- 2.4.6 Headings and labels
The visible name of some links does not match its accessible name. This is the case mainly with phone numbers and email addresses and we are working to correct this as part of the further development of the site. Accessibility requirement not met: 2.5.3 Label in name
On some pages, the same link text has been used to refer to several different sites, or the purpose of the link text is not always clear. We are fixing these as part of our ongoing site quality monitoring. Accessibility requirement not met: 2.4.4 Link purpose (in context)
Form groups: the invisible title of the checkboxes in the cookie window is in English. Accessibility requirement not met: 2.4.6 Headings and labels
Findings per element
Mobile menu: the status (open/close) of the menu button (displayed on mobile or when zooming in) is not accessible to screen reader users. Submenu buttons have incorrect aria attributes. In some situations, the tap can escape to the page below the mobile menu. In addition, closing the menu with the ESC key does not receive feedback and the cursor is not returned to the menu button. We have scheduled this to be fixed as part of the continuous development of the website. Accessibility requirement not met:
- 2.4.3 Focus order
- 4.1.2 Name, role, value
Tabs: Tabs (for example cookie window and carousel elements) do not have proper control of key alignment and do not support the necessary arrow key navigation. In addition, tabs cannot be activated with a space, and the content area of the Information tab cannot be targeted with the keyboard. This problem will be fixed as part of further development of the site. Accessibility requirement not met:
- 2.4.3 Focus order
- 4.1.2 Name, role, value
Search: on the search page, the search field and the search completion screen are in English. When the search results appear, the screen reader user may be unclear about the success of the search because several feedbacks for different screen readers overlap. Accessibility requirement not met: 4.1.3 Status messages
Pagination: the accessible name of the pagination element in search results and the accessible names of its elements are in English. In addition, there is no clear visual or on-screen reader feedback when the search results page changes. Accessibility requirement not met:
- 2.4.6 Headings and labels
- 4.1.3 Status messages
Videos: there are videos on the site that lack captioning. In addition, video posts have an accessible title but are presented in div elements that lack proper role definition. An accessibility requirement that is not met:
- 1.2.5 Audio description or media alternative (Prerecorded)
- 4.1.2 Name, role, value
Not covered by legislation
Some of the embedded maps on the pages are not accessible. Location information is available on the same page also in accessible format in text form.
