Young artists of summer: Ulla Knuuttila

Ulla Knuuttila – Treasures from the Journey

“I’ve put together a concert with the treasures I’ve found on my journey. All the works and people in the concert have been meaningful in some way on my journey as a musician to this point. Each song and co-musician have a special relationship and connection, and they are closely connected to one of the turning points in my life. These treasures have accompanied me and been with me in my experiences,” explains Knuuttila.

Ulla Knuuttila is a Kuopio-based violist who loves chamber music, nature and good food. She enjoys being able to make music in different ways and with different line-ups, ranging from the smallest chamber music ensemble to the largest symphony orchestra.

Knuuttila completed her studies at the University of Arts Helsinki Sibelius Academy as well as at music academies in Frankfurt, Berlin and Munich. She graduated with a master’s degree, majoring in viola and chamber music.

Important teachers along the way include Pirkko Simojoki, Roland Glassl, Andreas Willwohl and Eberhard Feltz. Since the autumn of 2022, Knuuttila has been a member of the wonderful viola section of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra.
