Young Artists of Summer: Taavi Orro
Taavi Orro’s concert “Flashbacks of Warm Life”
“Flashbacks of Warm Life” is a conceptual concert program that deals with the complexity of memory in the human experience through the idea of the sonic formation of music, expressed between two musicians.
The works on the program individually explore various aspects of composition: pitch, rhythm, sound and time, in focused musical material. However, together, they form a larger whole that acts as a metaphor for the way in which our memories float and fade in and out of intensity.’
Duo Orro-Fleitz is a clarinet and piano duo commended for “truly impressive” and “delicately nuanced” playing (Teater. Muusika. Kino), committed to inventive programming of contemporary music, and engaging performances that unveil hidden musical connections across time and space. The duo was formed by clarinetist Taavi Orro and pianist Robert Fleitz in 2021. They have performed at venues such as the Helsinki Music Center, Auss Culture Room (Rīga) and the Viimsi Artium (Tallinn). In April 2023 Duo Orro-Fleitz performed at the COMMUTE Festival in Tallinn, Estonia. They were also recently prizewinners in the Marcello Pontillo Chamber Music Competition in Florence, Italy. Their musical focus is currently directed to music of living composers, as well as important but lesser-known works of the 20th century.
