Young artists of summer: Esther Calderón Morales
Notes on impermanent forms
Notes on impermanent forms is a concert about natural elements and their transformations. How they take forms, that are never their definite ones and how we as humans participate in their constant evolution. From water bodies that flow into each other, to the vitrification of sand in to malleable glass, the objective is to analyze and communicate the states of the world through data-driven musical composition. By immersing the audience in a spatial sound experience, they are invited to reflect on our relationship with the environment and the incommensurable power we have in shaping and altering it.
Sediments is a work developed in collaboration with Emil Sana that blends synthesizers, sonic elements from rocks and plants and data sourced directly from the Earth.
Venus of the Baltic Sea is a composition by Juulia Haverninen and Esther Calderon for solo voice, hydrophone, and electronics, born out of collaboration with BlueAdapt researcher and hydrologist Inese Huttunen as part of “ArsAdapt – Artists for a sustainable future” project at Uniarts. The piece envisions a modern Baltic Venus emerging from the eutrophicated sea, and uses data sets that present the past and future scenarios of the Baltic Sea.
