Uniarts Research Pavilion 2023 Finissage event
The Uniarts Research Pavilion is happy to welcome you to its finissage party. After two and half weeks of lively events, exchanges and discussions, it is time to close the pavilion with a convivial live event with performances, music, discussion, soft drinks and snacks. With weather permitting, the event will partly take place outdoors. The event is free of charge and open to all. Welcome!
Programme
15.30 – 17.00 Drifts – Walking Festival of Sound
Jacek Smolicki and Tim Shaw (Walking Festival of Sound), each carrying portable broadcasting and sensing equipment, have established a number of live streams of video and sound during the exhibition. As the artists move through the different ecologies of public spaces in the UK, Sweden and Poland they respond to and improvise with the wide range of signals from their environment. They embrace technological limitations, instability, uncertainty, latency and dropouts as integral elements of the evolving work.
17:00 – 18:00 Seaformance 3 – The Psamides (An Imaginary Ceremony) by Vincent Roumagnac & Océane Bruel
In Greek mythology, ‘psamides’ designates the nereids of the sand, of strands, and beaches, which they preserve and protect. From sea glass collected on various shores, and along the beaches of Suomenlinna during walks with Vincent, Océane created a series of imaginary ritual objects. With the glass artist Anna Schroderus, Océane transformed the material into containers, to be used for speculative ceremonies dedicated to the return of all waters to the sea. For the finissage, Vincent and Océane kindly invite the visitors to gather by the seashore and try together what could such a ceremony be like.
18.30 – 19.00 Drifting Nocturnes by Angeliki Tzortzakaki & Toni Brell
Inspired by leisure cruises on the Baltic Sea, Brell and Tzortzakaki are interested in stories of socio-ecological entanglements seen through the fictionalised lens of a ghost ship. By giving voice to a boat and its changing identities, they aim to approximate means of non-extractivist storytelling. The journey is not linear: it is this anti-narrative that the vessel helps us to pass through. Its capacity to carry and be carried questions our fleeting states of existence.
19.00 – 20.00 4-hands electroacoustic DJ’s (Alejandro Montes de Oca & Otso Aavanranta)
4-Hands Electroacoustic DJ’s is a duo of experimental turntablism by Alejandro Montes de Oca and Otso Aavanranta. Both duo members are electroacoustic composers and musicians, joining hands to rework their own track and sound materials in a live improvised DJ performance.
