Superb vocal ensemble Theatre of Voices is renowned for their exquisite interpretations that are firmly derived from the lyrics of the music. During their visit the group teaches students of Sibelius Academy, some of which will join the stage in the concert.

Theatre of Voices
Theatre of Voices was established by Paul Hillier in 1990 in the UK. It now has its permanent base in Copenhagen, Denmark. The ensemble is known for its extensive repertoire of contemporary music, often juxtaposed with early music. Its programmes feature many of the most eminent composers of recent times, including Kaija Saariaho, Heiner Goebbels, Berio, Pärt, Reich, Cage, Gudmundsen-Holmgreen and Stockhausen, while among its current favourite ‘early’ composers are Perotin, Dowland and Buxtehude.
Sibelius Academy’s International Visitor Programme
Theatre of Voices’ visit and this concert are part of the International Visitor programme launched at the Sibelius Academy, University of the Arts in 2019. It complements the regular bachelor’s and master’s studies offered by the Sibelius Academy by inviting artists who represent the highest talent level of their respective fields to come and teach in Finland. The distinguished visiting artists work alongside students and teachers at the Sibelius Academy mainly in periods of one year or two years at a time. The international visitor programme has been supported by the Jane and Aatos Erkko foundation and Jenny and Antti Wihuri foundation.
