Welcome to Strange and Sacred Noise, the traditional chamber music concert by the Sibelius Academy’s percussion students, on 31 March at 20:00, in the Camerata Hall of the Helsinki Music Centre. This time, SibA Percussion Ensemble will be joined on stage by the percussion ensemble TreTonus from Tampere Music Academy, and the ensembles will take turns performing and there will also be pieces played by both ensembles together. The concert will be directed by lecturer Harri Lehtinen from Tampere Music Academy, and the performances by TreTonus will be directed by Janne Tuomi, who also teaches at Tampere Music Academy.
The concert programme consists of chamber music composed solely for percussion instruments, and the stage will be once again filled with a truckload of instruments. Featured composers include Rafa Maas, John Luther Adams, Marc Mellits, Drew Worden, Per Andreasson, Michael Burritt and Steve Reich/Glenn Kotche.
The name of the concert is derived from a massive music piece with the same name composed by John Luther Adams. Parts of it were played by SibA Percussion Ensemble already in the first show of the concert series in 2015.
