Slow activism, silent revolution
Is direct activism the most effective way to influence societal behavior and decision-making, or are more strategic, subtle, and gradual approaches required?
Many artists and activists share the same experience: no matter what we do, things don’t change. We have research and knowledge about the ecological situation of the planet, but it is not enough to change the way people and societies act. We have international agreements, but they are not enough to ensure equal living conditions. Is direct activism the best way to change or guide people’s thinking and the ideologies behind decisions? Or are more strategic, more silent, and slower methods needed? On the other hand, these same tools work both for and against.
Programme
Law researcher Paul Tiensuu discusses the relationship between ecological and economic sustainability. He highlights the ways in which both conservatives and anarchists have been influenced.
Activist and sociologist Marko Ulvila talks about his international cooperation in the Rojava autonomous region in north-eastern Syria.
Composer Riikka Talvitie presents her composition project Green Tress, which refers to the tree planting project in the Rojava region.
