Sibelius Academy Symphony Orchestra: Tulivuorenpurkaus
Sibelius Academy Symphony Orchestra: Volcanic eruption
In the autumn term, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s Professor of Conducting Martyn Brabbins will be visiting for the second concert of the Sibelius Academy Symphony Orchestra.
For more than thirty years, Brabbins has been at the forefront of British music during his career, taking him from the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Royal Flemish Philharmonic to the Kirov, La Scala and serving as music director of the English National Opera between 2016 and 2023.
Magical music from Elgar and Ralph Vaughan Williams will be performed in the first half of the concert. William Walton’s Symphony No. 1 is a virtuousic work that conveys the power of a volcanic eruption of sensual passion from the very first bar
The soloist for the Concerto in F Minor for Bass Tuba and Orchestra, Jack Archibald, has been selected from among the students by audition.
