Sibafest: Gloria! – Sibelius Academy church music choir
Church musicians of the Sibelius Academy perform
In its Gloria! concert, the church musicians of the Sibelius Academy will be performing the music of Victoria, Purcell, Mozart, Finz, Fougstedt, Mäntyjärvi, Nystedt and Daley.
The church musicians’ choir at the Sibelius Academy of UniArts Helsinki is a training choir for choral conducting students. Both singing in and conducting the choir are students from a variety of departments, such as church music, music education, composition and music theory, as well as departments for different instruments and the Open University.
The choir consists of students who are completing their first, second or third year studies in choral conducting under Jani Sivén, lecturer of choral conducting, and Anna Nora, teacher of choral conducting, as well as visiting lecturers and teachers. The choir’s repertoire consists of choir music from different centuries practised in the choral conducting studies.
Sibafest’s first day will culminate in a joint concert performed by Synthestra and music technology students
The three-hour concert of electronic dance music combines experimental techno dance music and an immersive listener experience.
The students of music technology together with the band Synthestra will play their works within a multi-channel sound environment that surrounds the audience.
Gloria! Concert on January 27th at 4:00 PM at Roihuvuori Church

Sibafest 26–27 Jan 2024
On 26–27 Jan, the main event of Sibelius Academy’s Sibafest will fill out the Helsinki Music Centre. The festival kicks off a year packed with a thousand concerts. At Sibafest, you can follow the rehearsals for the Marriage of Figaro, try out the organ, peek behind the scenes of the symphony orchestra and participate in a techno concert and panel discussions.
Now taking place for the tenth time, Sibafest is the biennial main event of the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki. The event presents the Academy’s internationally top-quality concert activities. The main parts are played by the Sibelius Academy’s own students and teachers and well as the audience themselves – both together and separately.
