Pulmonary Summoning
Pulmonary Summoning is a video installation and performance exploring modes of being in language related to contemporary society and work.
For the exhibition at MUU Helsinki Contemporary Art Centre, Duncan will present a new performance and video installation exploring the coded rituals and language surrounding contemporary forms of work. Taking three settings as starting points – the meeting, the interview and the office party four performers will deconstruct the verbal and non-verbal language codes present in these three scenarios. The video explores the aesthetics and body languages of office work as a starting point to explore these three scenes in a workshop setting with four performers. A written and sung script comprised of excerpts from business podcasts, pop song lyrics, The exhibition is part of an ongoing collaboration between the Master´s Degree Programme in Live Art and Performance Studies (LAPS) and MUU Helsinki Contemporary Art Centre, which includes collaborative workshops, discussions and presentations of LAPS Master’s theses, performances and exhibitions. The LAPS Master’s programme provides artists with a research-based context for working with performance art and contemporary performance through individual and collective practices.
