Mutefest: Libero Mureddu – The Avatars and I
Libero Mureddu’s Third Doctoral Concert
With “The Avatars and I,” Libero Mureddu continues his exploration of the improviser’s embodied knowledge, following his previous doctoral concerts “Joy Against the Machine” (2021) and “Sonic Avatars” (2023). Mureddu will perform at the piano alongside two digital replicas of himself, the Avatars, brought to life by dance artist Giorgio Convertito and flautist Livia Schweizer, who will use digital software instead of their usual instruments. Unlike the previous concert-laboratory, this time Mureddu’s piano playing will be projected on screen-mirrors and observed, multiplied, distorted, and analysed in real-time by the Avatar players, who will embody Mureddu’s musical skin through their own improvisatory skills. By observing how the three players interact—with each other and with their instruments—the audience will witness the unfolding of their embodied knowledge within this unconventional sonic and visual performative-research space.
