Mia Heikkinen – Klovni? Narri? Sopraano!
Soprano Mia Heikkinen’s second postgraduate concert
Klovni? Narri? Sopraano! is a kind of clown opera that relates incidents from an opera singer’s career through improvisation, clowning and bouffon. The presentation takes a strong stand on the #metoo movement and on the unpleasant, unspoken aspects of the opera world.
What makes us laugh? What are we still allowed to laugh at? When and how does the comic become tragic? Under what conditions do opera characters turn comic? Can this happen even to the most serious of figures?
Heikkinen’s clown character is an opera singer whose career has been full of incidents and mishaps. Everything shown on stage is based on details of real experiences gathered from singers using an anonymous questionnaire. The audience gets to peek behind the scenes: what kind of comments do singers get to hear during singing lessons, in auditions, or from conductors and supervisors, and what can happen to singers in the dressing room, on the fringes of the stage, or even on the stage itself.
The programme includes Mozart’s arias and duets as well as improvised music.
