Juuri
Artwork on Kuninkaansaari island.
Within the Juuri-artwork we visualize an invisible network of trees in Kuninkaansaari island and try to draw the viewer’s attention for a moment into a world which is often hidden from people’s gaze.
Trees communicate through their roots and mycelium. They work together by sharing food, supporting each other and warning of dangers. Alone, one tree is often unprotected, but together the trees form a forest, a living organism that creates a favorable habitat for them.
Artists: Maija Joensuu (landscape architect) & Noora Lehtovuori (curator)
The work is part of the Island of Relations exhibition and Uniarts Helsinki’s Saari 2020 (Island 2020) programme on Kuninkaansaari island.
