Jaska Lukkarinen Trio – Textures
Jaska Lukkarinen’s second doctoral concert.
Programme
Creating, maintaining and releasing musical energy and tension in a saxophone trio. 8 pieces composed by Mikko Hassinen for the Jaska Lukkarinen Trio.
Lukkarinen’s second doctoral concert Textures focuses on a drummer’s accompaniment textures in a saxophone trio without a harmonic instrument. The music performed at the concert has been written for the trio by drummer/composer Mikko Hassinen. This has created a laboratory of two drummers, bringing out the artistic and accompaniment-related challenges that a saxophone trio presents for a drummer. These challenges have served as the inspiration behind Hassinen’s compositions. Through music, and using the field of research created by Hassinen’s compositions, the concert highlights Lukkarinen’s key observations regarding the research material, which focuses on recordings of saxophone trios.
Performers
- Jaska Lukkarinen, drums
- Jussi Kannaste, saxophone
- Antti Lötjönen, double bass
