Hanna Rantala – Rakkaat
Hanna Rantala’s last postgraduate concert
Soprano Hanna Rantala’s last postgraduate concert, entitled Rakkaat (Beloved) – Monodrama for soprano, piano and electronics, is a modern-day lied and love song presented as a colourful monodrama première.
How does a woman sing about love without slipping into the gender roles of the 19th century? Rakkaat is loosely based on Schumann’s song cycle entitled Frauenliebe und -leben, expanding its concept of love and the beloved to speak to the modern-day listener. Minna Leinonen’s rich melodies and Milka Luhtaniemi’s melodious lyrics combine to form a multifaceted and expansive whole.
