Global Spring: Vija Moore
Pause in Nature, then Carry on with Hope.
This concert is the conclusion of Latvian singing percussionist Vija Moore’s bachelor studies at the Sibelius Academy of Music, Global Music Department.
The concert reflects how musical expression with lyrics, experienced in nature, enables us to process societal problems and difficult emotions, finding inner peace. The music includes arranged Latvian folksongs, as well as original compositions from Vija’s visits to the Keskuspuisto forest.
As part of the research process for the concert, creation elements emerged in Keskuspuisto forest, where Vija collected field recordings and improvisations interacting with trees and birds. Keskuspuisto is an important place for the people of Helsinki. It Is where families go for evening walks, dogs can run around, people do horseback riding, tend their vegetable gardens and many more interactions with nature. It is a sacred place where tensions can be released and the soul can recharge.
