Global Spring: Viivi Maria Saarenkylä
Viivi Maria Saarenkylä’s master’s concert ’’Major chaos’’.
More certainly than not, a chaos always exists. It’s the uncontrollable nature of life, present in every moment and in every place. It’s the essence of human experience. But sometimes situations might as well slide under control, random notes settle together into melodies and moods. Suddenly chaos becomes the initiating force of everything.
Major Chaos explores the creative, inner chaos of a musician’s mind from unexpected perspectives. Saarenkylä’s music is a unique fusion of folk and pop aesthetics, infused with South-American rhythms, danceable grooves and virtuosic melodies – quite a fuzz itself! Turning the inevitable every-day chaos into songs made her realize that seemingly chaotic things may as well have a major undertone and lightness in them. As the truth is that no great artist over the history of humanity got inspired only by the ease of living, quite the opposite, Saarenkylä also decided to welcome the chaos not as an unwanted state but rather as something self-evident, a play with the thrill of unknown. Each note presenting the spectrum of life’s twists and turns, the moments that make us feel alive, she welcomes the chaos of life as a joyful guest visiting in a form of music, encouraging us to celebration.
The concert is part of Viivi Maria Saarenkylä’s Global Music Master’s degree.
