Global Spring: Laura Maria Rinta
”Mis flores artificiales”
In ”Mis flores artificiales”, Laura Maria Rinta presents new music that she has composed to the Spanish translations of well-known Finnish author Edith Södergran’s (1892-1923) poems. The project was born when Laura Maria Rinta discovered some of her favourite poems by Edith Södergran had been recently translated into Spanish by the female translator, Neila García Salgado, who is also of a similar age to Rinta herself. The songs portray stories and observations about womanhood, life, beauty, death, and agony, which still resonate even after 100 years from Södergran’s passing. Spanish is a natural language choice for Laura Maria Rinta, who has focused on flamenco singing during her studies in the Global Music Department and grown up listening to the music of nueva canción artists from Latin America.
