Il Campanello (1841)

The guests have gathered to celebrate the wedding of the esteemed pharmacist Don Annibale. Also in attendance is Enrico, the former sweetheart of Seraphina, the young bride. Enrico intends to win her heart back. The newlyweds’ wedding night is interrupted time and time again by a disguised Enrico, who enters the apothecary and makes increasingly complicated requests. The pharmacist has no choice but to try and serve his customer. What happens to the rest of their wedding night when the doorbell of the apothecary rings incessantly and dawn is breaking?

La Gazzetta (1816)

The city of Naples is abuzz after Neapolitan potentate Don Pomponio Storione has put an ad in the newspaper in search of a husband for his daughter, the beautiful Lisetta. Unbeknownst to her father, Lisetta is already engaged to Filippo, a young innkeeper, who, in Don Pomponio’s opinion, is by no means a suitable groom for his daughter.

At the same time, wealthy suitor Alberto arrives at the inn. Through a misunderstanding, Alberto becomes smitten by Doralice, believing her to be the daughter of Don Pomponio. Satisfied with Alberto, Don Pomponio intends to introduce the suitor to his daughter. However, Lisetta is less enthusiastic about his choice of suitor and defies her father’s will. In the end, Don Pomponio, confused by the misunderstandings and disguises worn by Filippo, is faced with a difficult choice: Should he accept their love or risk losing his beloved daughter forever?
