DIG. 2022: Teemu Viinikainen
During the concert “Hiljaisuus… ja äänen synty” by Teemu Viinikainen we’ll see the premiere of a documentary with the same name.
Teemu Viinikainen is one of Finland’s best-known and most distinguished jazz guitarists. An emphasis on expressive power, swing and virtuosity are key elements in his playing but, above all, it is his strong presence, delicate touch and the subtle sound of his instrument that make the most immediate impression on the listener.
The evening will start with the documentary “Hiljaisuus… ja äänen synty”. The documentary features the conversations between Viinikainen and the actor Hannu-Pekka Björkman about the mystery of the birth of sound and consider the theme from the perspective of both artists. The guitarist’s aspiration is to be attracted to that perfection as part of his interpretation. The actor approaches the issue on a deep level through silence and gives everything a different perspective. In addition, master instrument builder Ari-Pekka Paasonen reflects through his own work on how a guitar builder’s only goal is to achieve a perfectly sounding guitar. The documentary was written and directed by Tommi E. Virtanen, known for e.g. from his documentaries “Master of Melody, Kassu Halonen” and “Men of a Thousand Stripes”.
