Bach Week 40 years!

The degree programme in early music will be presenting two concerts to celebrate the 40th anniversary of what has become the legendary Helsinki Chamber Strings’ Bach Week.

Under the direction of Anssi Mattila and Rabbe Forsman, Sibelius Academy students at that time spent the entire academic year of 1984–85 putting together a J.S. Bach orchestra production, which was presented in its entirety at the House of Nobility in Helsinki over the course of a week in April 1985. In honour of the 40th anniversary of the now legendary Helsinki Chamber Strings’ Bach Week, the Department of Early Music will organise two separate concerts dedicated to J.S. Bach concertos:

23 January 2025

Two concertos for multiple harpsichords will bookend the “Brandenburg” Concerto No.4 in G major.

8 May 2025

Concertos for oboe, violin and oboe d’amore will be presented at the German Evangelical Lutheran Congregation.
