Data protection statement and privacy notice for research participants – Writing-with Others as Artist Pedagogy project
Data protection statement and privacy notice (EU 2016/679, articles 12–14, 30). Date of preparation: 21 October 2024.
Request to participate in a research project
You are requested to participate in a study that investigates feminist collective writing (or “writing-with”). The purpose of the research is to produce new knowledges on what collective writing can be, especially in the teaching of art and as part of artistic thinking. Read more from the research project’s website.
The research is mainly based on the researcher’s personal scholarly and artistic reflections (e.g. about the concept and practice of collective writing and the practice, including the leading of workshops). Other types of research material (e.g. images, texts, sound recordings) may be collected from the participants of workshops/events with the permission of the participants.
The project organizes workshops and collective writing events, such as retreats, for students and staff of the University of the Arts, writing enthusiasts, and other interested parties. The number of workshops/events and target groups will be specified during the research process.
Voluntary participation
Participation in the study is voluntary. You can refuse to participate in the study or stop participating at any time without giving a reason and without consequences. In that case, inform the researcher: aino-kaisa.koistinen@uniarts.fi. However, the research material collected up to the termination decision can be used in the research.
Research process
The research examines feminist practices of collective writing, or writing-with, with the methods of artistic research. The duration of the entire research process is August 2023 – December 2026. The duration of the workshops and other events planned is approximately 1-2 days each. Some of these events/workshops may occur more than once.
Funding for the research
The research is part of the profiling area “Artistic thinking driven artist pedagogy” funded by the Finnish Research Council.
Compensation for participation
No remuneration is paid for participation in the research.
Research publications
In the research, various scientific and artistic publications are produced. The results of the research can be made public in, for example, conferences, seminars and panel discussions, as well as in scientific and artistic books and magazines. Research results can also be published on popular platforms (e.g. magazines, radio, TV) and on the project’s social media.

1. Personal data to be processed in the research
In the study, the following personal data may be collected: name, e-mail address, phone number, and the personal pronouns you use, dietary needs, personal accessibility needs (these are needed, for example, when registering for workshops; information related to diet and accessibility will only be disclosed to catering and facility services without the names of the participants). Experts taking part in the research may be asked for their professional title. However, the aim is to collect the data in such a way that as little personal data as possible is collected from the participants.
You can also voluntarily hand in texts you have written in the workshops/events. Photos may be taken in the workshops/events with permission from the participants. Sounds (i.e. discussion, writing exercises that include voicing words out loud) may be recorded with permission from the participants.
This privacy notice is published on the study’s website and will also be provided electronically or in paper form to workshop/event participants.
2. Legal grounds for processing personal data in research/archiving (Archives Act 831/1994)
The processing is necessary for scientific, artistic or historical research purposes or for statistical purposes and it is proportionate with consideration to the aim of public interest pursued(section 4 (3) in the Data Protection Act (1050/2018)).
The legal ground for processing personal data in this research is scientific or historical research purposes or statistical purposes carried out in the public interest (section 6 in the Data Protection Act (1050/2018)).

You will be requested for your explicit consent to have your personal data published when reporting research results (e.g. expert interviews).
6. Processing of personal data after the research has been completed
The research register is destroyed by December 31, 2028.
