About the artwork

Everything starts from a sense of wonder. When the question is asked, the feeling inside starts to intensify, and the hands begin to move. Sincere curiosity and a thirst for knowledge unfold before you as images.

Juomalla yltyvään janoon consists of oil paintings and a school desk installation brought into a built space. The boundaries of the work become blurred inside the space, and the encapsuled work is separated from reality. The different parts of the work have been created through a study of various materials and locations connected with the history of Finnish symbolism and Karelianism and new age culture. A wish to understand obscure and unexplainable things has a nuanced and prolific history. Questions about social change, the history of ideologies, collective memory and depicting fantasies occupy a central place in the work.

The details emerge gradually by scraping or persuasion. Behind every door there’s a new one. Further. Deeper. Into its gut.
