Uniarts Helsinki’s Sibelius Academy ranked 9th best music institution in the QS World University Rankings
Uniarts Helsinki’s highest placements in the 2025 rankings include Sibelius Academy’s 9th place in the field of music and 14th place in performing arts. Additionally, the university ranked among the top 260 in the field of art and design.

The Sibelius Academy has consistently ranked among the top institutions in performing arts, reaching its best placement of sixth in 2018. In 2024, music institutions were evaluated as a separate category for the first time. This year, a total of 1,503 institutions were assessed in the field of music, with the top 20 publicly ranked.

These outstanding rankings would not be possible without the long-term collaboration and commitment of our exceptional students, dedicated teachers and esteemed partners in building the future of the field,” says Uniarts Helsinki Rector Kaarlo Hildén.
The Royal College of Music in London was ranked the world’s best music institution for the second time, also securing the top spot in performing arts. In the performing arts category, 1,812 institutions were evaluated, with the top 150 publicly ranked.
In the art and design category, a total of 2,760 institutions were assessed, with 260 institutions publicly ranked. Uniarts Helsinki placed among the top 260 institutions in this category. The Royal College of Art in London was ranked as the best institution in the world for art and design.
The QS Quacquarelli Symonds annual university ranking is one of the most prestigious in the world. The subject-specific rankings are based on surveys conducted among university faculty members, researchers and representatives from higher education institutions and employers. Institutions are not allowed to assess themselves in the evaluation process.
In the field of arts, the QS ranking consists of two key components: academic expert evaluations and employer assessments. The employer assessment measures the opinions of industry employers regarding which institutions produce the most sought-after graduates in their respective fields.
This year, the QS Rankings included subject-specific assessments in 55 different fields.
