Laura Gröndahl selected as vice dean for research at the Theatre Academy
A particularly important factor in Gröndahl’s recruitment was her strong track record of academic management.
Doctor of Arts Laura Gröndahl, who holds the title of docent in theatre research, was appointed vice dean for research at Uniarts Helsinki’s Theatre Academy. Gröndahl’s term as the vice dean extends from 1 January 2024 to 31 December 2026.
Gröndahl has worked as a university lecturer of artistic research at the Theatre Academy since 2017. Gröndahl’s professional history also includes positions of university lecturer of theatre and drama research at the University of Tampere, university lecturer of visual communication at the University of Lapland and professor of stage design at Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture. Gröndahl has published several academic articles and books and supervised dissertations and theses. Gröndahl has also worked in specialist duties as well as a grant-funded researcher, freelance researcher, scenographer and costume designer.
The vice dean recruitment process was carried out through an open call for applications, and there were four applicants in total. Two top candidates were interviewed, and they were also heard in an open discussion and interview event for the community in November.
A particularly important factor in Gröndahl’s recruitment was her strong track record of academic management. Gröndahl had gained suitable professional experience for the position by previously carrying out duties of vice dean, head of a degree programme and professor. Gröndahl’s personal artistry and background in research at arts and science universities were also considered advantages when making the appointment decision.
Gröndahl was appointed vice dean for research by the rector on the proposal of the Theatre Academy dean on 11 December 2023.
