16 applicants for the position of rector of Uniarts Helsinki
In accordance with the Universities Act and the Uniarts Helsinki Regulations, Uniarts Helsinki is led by a rector, who is appointed on a five-year basis to be in charge of the university’s finances, preparations concerning matters to be discussed by the board as well as the execution of these matters, and the hiring of personnel, for example. The rector will also have a central role in the implementation of the university’s new strategy, which was approved in February 2020.
The Uniarts Helsinki Board announced the call for applications for the position of rector for the term 1 December 2020 – 30 November 2025 in March. The application deadline was 1 April 2020, and 16 applicants applied for the position. A total of 4 of them are internal applicants.

The Board will discuss the recruitment for the first time in its meeting on 22 April 2020. According to the target schedule, the new rector will be appointed in June. Before the appointment is made, the university community will be invited to an open discussion forum.
In the recruitment process, the Board is supported by the talent advisory firm Mercuri Urval, which focuses on executive search as an alternative to the public application process. The university community also had the chance to send their rector suggestions.
The five-year term of the current rector Jari Perkiömäki will end on 30 November 2020.
