Beginning (2023) – Louisa Palmi Danielsson, Fixed media

Beginning delves into the nuanced theme of progress in a technologically saturated world, navigating the dualities inherent in our relationship with technology and information. Through a compelling musical dialogue, the composition illuminates this contrast by juxtaposing acoustic, natural elements with electronic feedback. The journey of the piece unfolds through a spectrum of expressions, transitioning from unhurried, organic movements to dynamic and bustling landscapes. This sonic exploration captures the essence of our contemporary existence, offering a musical reflection on the varied facets of the world we inhabit.

Bio: When sound acquires movement, it gives birth to new spaces. When spaces embrace sound, they come alive with motion. Louisa Palmi is an innovative composer, musician, and sound artist specializing in electroacoustic music presented in multi-channel formats. Her creative work seamlessly melds electronics with 3D sound technology to craft immersive auditory landscapes. Her exploration delves into the transformative power of manipulating and spatializing sound to alter our perception of space. Her compositions embrace a spectrum of contrasts, from subtle textures to loud resonances, from intricate details to sweeping movements—all orchestrated through a single computer and an array of speakers. Through her artistic lens, she investigates societal phenomena using the medium of sound. Her portfolio spans both fixed media works, collaborative performances with music, dance and film and installations. At the core of her music lies the essence of dynamic movement, achieved through the manipulation of sound within spatial contexts.

In a short span of time Louisa Palmi’s work has garnered recognition for its innovative and progressive nature. Currently she is studying a Masters degree in Electroacoustic Composition at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm. Previously she studied under Natasha Barrett. She has collaborated with artists such as Arve Henriksen, Per Martinsen (mental overdrive) and choreographer Toby Kassell. Her works have been shown at various venues across Europe. In 2023, she was honored with the prestigious title of “Emerging Artist” by the Arctic Arts Festival.

Memory Foam (2023) – Eleonore Hocine Engström

Bio: Amina Hocine (b.1991) is Swedish composer, sound artist, and instrument creator, currently pursuing her masters in electro acoustic composition at the Royal college of music in Stockholm. She writes acousmatic and notated music for musicians, focusing on longform pieces, exploring minimal harmonic movements and static rhythmic gestures. Her recent work has been centered around a self-made organ embodied from HVAC components, which produces mesmerizing drones with profound psychoacoustic effects. Drawing inspiration from spiritual sciences, she weaves detailed timbres and encourages deep listening in her compositions.

Rain (2022/23) – Henrik Frisk

Rain is a composition with no end. The original harmonic evolution was determined by minute differences in tuning between four glasses suspended in the air as rain was collected in them and water evaporated. The gradual deterioration of the water in the tubes and the leaves that fall into the glasses further influenced the pitch. The installation was recorded twice a day, and the current version is rendered from those recordings using physical models of the original glass tubes. The spatialization is mapped to the same input data (rhythm, intensity and pitch).

Bio: Henrik Frisk is an active performer of improvised and contemporary music and a composer of electroacoustic music. As a professor at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm he is the head of programs for electroacoustic music and research. His own research is concerned with improvisation, interactivity, spatialisation and collaborative practices. Henrik has performed in many countries in Europe, North America and Asia, and as a composer he has received commissions from many institutions, ensembles and musicians. Numerous recordings, mostly collaborations, are available on American, Canadian, Swedish and Danish record labels.
